Merrindale Gelbvieh Claims Grand Champion Bull at BEEF 2024

8th May 2024

Merrindale Gelbvieh enjoyed an outstanding week at BEEF 2024 in Rockhampton, led by Kadfarm Gelbvieh Spartan winning Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull.

Exhibited by Brian and Jasmin Kaddatz and their family, Spartan first won the class for bulls aged 30 months and under 36 months. He then progressed to claim Senior Champion Male before receiving the breed’s highest male honour, Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull.

The result was a proud achievement for the Kaddatz family, whose involvement with Gelbvieh cattle began more than 30 years ago. Brian’s parents, Brice and Frances Kaddatz, helped introduce the breed to tropical Queensland and pioneered the crossing of Gelbvieh with Brahman cattle.

Merrindale also achieved several other strong results during the Gelbvieh judging.

Merrindale Treasure won her class for heifers aged 17 months and under 19 months before being named Reserve Junior Champion Female. Merrindale Tigga placed third in the bull class for animals aged 17 months and under 19 months, while Merrindale Trinity placed third in the female class for animals aged 21 months and under 24 months.

The stud also performed well in the group classes, placing second in the Exhibitors Group and Sire Progeny Stakes. Merrindale then claimed first place in the Dam Progeny Stakes.

The verified Merrindale results from BEEF 2024 were:

  • Kadfarm Gelbvieh Spartan – first in the 30 to 36-month bull class
