About Merrindale Gelbvieh

Merrindale Gelbvieh is a family-operated cattle stud owned by Brian and Jasmin Kaddatz at Cinnabar, Queensland. With a strong focus on practical performance, we breed quality Gelbvieh and Gelbvieh-influenced cattle suited to Australian conditions.

Our breeding program focuses on the qualities Gelbvieh cattle are known for, including adaptability, fertility, quiet temperament, maternal ability, strong growth, muscle development and carcase performance.

Our History

The Kaddatz family’s involvement with Gelbvieh cattle began in 1989 in Mackay, Queensland. Brian’s parents, Brice and Frances Kaddatz, helped introduce and promote the first Gelbvieh cattle in tropical Australia.

The family also became the first in Australia to cross Gelbvieh with Bos Indicus cattle. This pioneering breeding program combined the growth, maternal strength and carcase qualities of Gelbvieh with the adaptability and resilience of tropical cattle.

From these early beginnings, the Kaddatz family has helped establish Gelbvieh in Queensland while supporting the continued development of the breed across Australia.

Brian’s lifelong involvement in agriculture includes working on the family farm in Mackay, studying at Emerald Agricultural College and working in cotton and broadacre farming in Central Queensland. His career has also included roles across the rural, mining, manufacturing and sales industries.

Brian and Jasmin later established their own property, Merrindale, at Cinnabar. Here, they continue the family’s commitment to breeding cattle that deliver dependable results for stud and commercial beef producers.

Industry and Community Involvement

Merrindale’s commitment extends beyond the farm. Brian has held leadership roles within the Gelbvieh industry, including serving as President of the Queensland Branch of the Gelbvieh Association from March 2017.

He has also served as Secretary of the Gympie District Beef Liaison Group, helping regional producers stay informed about industry regulations and practices while supporting one of Australia’s longest-running carcase competitions.

Brian and Jasmin are also active within their local community through church, school, hall and agricultural organisations.

Continuing a Proud Tradition

Today, Merrindale Gelbvieh continues to build on more than three decades of family experience. By combining proven genetics with practical knowledge, we aim to produce quiet, functional and productive cattle that perform in Australian environments.

Our passion for Gelbvieh remains as strong as ever, and we are proud to support the breed, our fellow cattle producers and the future of the Australian beef industry.
